Similar to having a ‘mini cleanroom’ in the laboratory, CSL UV Sterilisation cabinets minimise the potential for PCR reaction contamination. They include powerful UV lights, which serve to denature nucleic acids in 5 to 30 minutes making them suitable for decontamination of equipment used for setting up PCR reactions. The lights are timer controlled and there are safety switches on the cabinet doors, which automatically turn-off the UV lights when opened preventing user exposure to UV light. The cabinets also act as an efficient shield against beta radioactive emissions and can therefore be safely used with isotopes, such as 32P. The cabinets also include a white light, which provides excellent visibility when working inside the cabinet. uvCAB cabinets are available in two sizes, the Maxi and Mini versions.
